I didn't know that on this forum only Fusion-related solutions are appropriate and welcome. When I found it working I wanted to share with other people having the same problem as me, even if solution is not Fusion-related. So I tried other solutions, not Fusion-related. There is no Fusion solution for this problem, at least as far as I know. So I thought that it is a good place to discuss about this problem in general. But I had a problem, similar to this described in this thread. I started with Fusion, because VM was recognized brand for me. Looking for some VM to run XP staff after migration. I wouldn't be surprised if my hub is usb1.1 only. So I can only suggest to use a USB2.0 hub, in my case that did not work, but I only have a very crappy one here. seems the Windows 8 VM does not even boot with a USB3.0 controller, not even getting a BIOS screen.Ĭhanged the USB controller back to USB2.0 and it does boot fine. unrecognized device as well.īut on Windows 8 it also had a USB2.0 compatible adapter, so I shut down Windows 8, changed the adapter to USB3 and rebooted.

same message about not being connected to the most ideal adapter and reconfigure. My USB controller on the virtual machine is already set to USB2, so in theory it should be fine.
#Wd my book essential 1tb virtual cd pro
On my previous macbook pro I have indeed used it to connect to Windows XP, when I just tried to have it connect to windows XP it did reconfigure, but ended up with. I do use it regularly on the OSX side and there it works as advertised. I happen to have a WD 1TB my passport as well and it is a wonderful external harddisk. Im also wondering if it has anythign to do with the drive being usb 3.0 the cable and manufature says usb 3.0 capatable with usb 2.0 and that it should not matter. The older computer is a mac book pro using vmware 3.1.5 and the new computer is a macbook pro using the new VMware 5.0.2. im guessing it has to do with VMware fusion because that is the only thing that has changed between computers.
#Wd my book essential 1tb virtual cd serial
Ive gone over all the drivers for the external drive and its all there but every time I connect it to windows xp the windows xp then produces a error saying usb device not recognized and then the drive changes from a drive to an unknown device under Universial serial buss controllers in device manager. The oddest part is that I have an older computer running VMware Fusion 3.1.5 with windows xp and it runs just fine.
